The Soul Anchor [Hebrews 6:19] - May 1, 2025

This is a picture of my arm while I am donating blood on the Thursday after a full week of worship services focusing on Jesus death and resurrection. I began giving blood over 20 years ago when a woman from my church had a surgery and wanted to make sure that if she needed a transfusion, she would have blood that she could trust. When I made that donation, I realized this was something I could do regularly and so today I’ve donated 21 gallons of blood. I’d like to say I’m glad they didn’t take it all at once.

For many years when I would make my donation, the people who work at the blood bank would say thank you for saving like today. I appreciated the sentiment but really, there’s no guarantee that my blood saved anyone’s life. It could’ve gone to research which at some point they helped to save a life. The person who received my life may not have survived the surgery or procedure they were having.   I’m not sure of the reason for the change but now the blood bank literature says my donation could have saved up to three lives. I like to believe that my blood donations may have helped to save some physical lives but realistically my blood donations will never accomplish anything like the power of the blood of Jesus shed for us on the cross.

1 John 1:7 (NIV) But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

Hebrews 9:13-14 (NIV) The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Revelation 5:9-10 (NIV) And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth."

God bless,

Pastor Frank
