JUST A REMINDER

The Soul Anchor [Hebrews 6:19] - July 1, 2024

I once read about a church that didn’t have enough parking.  Fortunately it was located right next to a store that was closed on Sundays, so a church member asked the storeowner if they could overflow into his parking lot on Sundays.  “No problem,” he said. “You can use it fifty-one weeks out of the year.  On the fifty-second week, though, it will be chained off.”  The man was grateful, but asked curiously, “What happens that week?” The store owner smile and said “Nothing, I just want you to remember that it is not your parking lot.” Consider the following verses:

Psalms 24:1 — "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."

Leviticus 25:23 — "The land is mine and you are but aliens and my tenants."

Haggai 2:8 — "The silver is mine and the gold is mine,” declares the Lord Almighty."

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 — "You are not your own; you were bought at a price."

Deuteronomy 8:18 — "Remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth."

Do you really believe those verses? Think about it—when was the last time you actually ask the true owner of all things for His opinion before making a financial, career or personal decision? Do you consider His principles when dealing with others in important matters? Just a reminder that he really does own it all and we really are accountable for how we manage all of His good gifts.

1 Corinthians 4:2 — "Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful."

God’s word promises a great reward for those who are faithful:

Matthew 25:21 — "His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'"

Finally it is important to remember that God has an incredible repo plan—it’s called death. We will all experience it and it is important to remember that we don’t take anything with us when we leave.

And he told them this parable:

"The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'  "Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."'  "But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'  "This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."  (Luke 12:16-21).

God bless,

Pastor Frank
